Galleri Christoffer Egelund is proud to present DIVA, the first solo exhibition of Danish artist Krista Rosenkilde in the anterior of the gallery.

Krista Rosenkilde through paintings, reliefs and ceramics depicts an aesthetic and aura connected to the idea of a diva. The artist focuses on the visual experience one can imagine when portraying a person like that. What is striking about that figure is the confidence, firm ability to stand the ground but also joie de vivre. The exuberance fills the air. Diva is energetic, excited and cheerful.

Rosenkilde’s works are a bridge to the last century’s Modernist movements such Abstract Art, Suprematism and Bauhaus in which the artists, through geometry, eluded from the accurate depiction of reality and focused on the work’s form and function to be of equal significance. She remains hugely inspired by Wassily Kandinsky. With the use of gouache and acrylic paint on paper, wood, cardboard, ceramics and large furniture like sculptures Krista Rosenkilde blurs the boundary between art and design. She is drawn to the process of the subject matter from a work on paper evolving into a 3D object. In that way the artist feels enthusiastic about using various mediums extending the field of painting.

As much as all the pieces together create a certain dialogue they can easily have a distinguished life of their own. The patterns seen on paintings, reliefs and sculptures could also decorate textiles, fabrics and interiors overall creating a total installation. The artist again goes back to the previous century and takes inspiration from the post-modernist décor from the end of 60’s and beginning of 70’s that was full of colour, synthetic textiles and extravaganza. The decorative approach to her objects allows the viewer to engage in the visual experience. The idea of bringing art and design together is very close to Krista Rosenkilde’s oeuvre and makes her feel free as an artist.

Upon the entrance DIVA will pull you in to the powerful colours, disctinctive shapes and captivating patterns. The aim of this exhibition is to feel an array of emotions and let your mind acknowledge the sensations and dynamics through a visual adventure, just like we would when listening to music. Use your senses and intuition to guide you to a place of timelessness where the physical experience of the paintings replaces the intellectual pleasure of getting it.

Krista Rosenkilde (b. 1982) received a MFA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. She uses a wide range of materials and medias in her work – gouache, painting, large sculptures, ceramic sculptures, lino prints, lithographic prints, digitally printed textiles and woven wall hangings. She has had numerous solo and group shows all over Denmark. She also collaborated with designers – most recently with Fritz Hansen Furniture by creating a lino print design for the Ant Chair by Arne Jacobsen. Her works can be found in collections such as: Politikens Hus House Collection, Københavns Billedkunstudvalg and The Danish Art Foundation.
