Mia Pensa
Mia Pensa (b. 2002) is an emerging contemporary artist based in Melbourne, Australia. Having grown into a household fostering her creative expression, her painting and making rituals have quickly evolved into a full time practice. Mia’s pieces have been collected and exhibited worldwide. Her most recent solo exhibition, here for a while, was presented at Gallery Christoffer Egelund in November 2025.
Her work primarily depicts striking representations of animals found inhabiting both tropical and otherworldly surroundings, drawing influence on archives of paintings, textiles, ceramics and sculpture from a range of cultures. Mia’s subjects are conceptualised through an exploration of pencil and digital revision, using her documented past work as a means to revisit and expand on the themes and motifs featured in her paintings. The final compositions are achieved by building layers of washed ink backdrops, followed by an intuitive application of heavily bodied acrylic and oil mediums.
