ENGLISH
Galleri Christoffer Egelund is proud to present Maria Torp’s first major solo exhibition, Outside In. Maria Torp (b. 1975) graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2007, and in recent years she has worked intensively with figurative painting in a hyper-naturalistic idiom.
In this exhibition Maria Torp focuses on the collision between different spaces and perspectives in a series of paintings and kaleidoscopic collages. Here the confines and frames of the pictorial space are explored and accentuated by pressing different angles and positions into the picture plane. In this way she visualises the experience of seeing a room or a situation through the mirror image of a glass facade. Maria Torp thus seems to be “playing” with our perception and understanding of rooms that we immediately recognise from our everyday life. Using the super-realistic idiom’s detailed representation of reality, the relationship between motif and details is rethought in a titillating and interesting manner, as the picture plane is constantly rearranged and challenged through new lenses and distorted reflections.
Concurrently, in the gallery’s project room, we present the exhibition Walk the Line by Marianne Lipschitz Jørgensen. Here the artist explores the most fundamental elements of drawings and their potentials. By dissecting drawings down to their smallest units, a dot, the artist is left with the possibility to define a line or a space depending on how those units are combined and repeated. Marianne L. Jørgensen indicates a few systems, yet at the same time she lets them start their own disintegration – or maybe they are assembled, depending on how you read the drawings! Marianne L. Jørgensen’s geometric idiom and formal linearity not only creates the basis for structural logic in her works, it is also the condition for chaotic disorder to be able to develop. She thus focuses attention on geometric order and its disintegration as a process, a repetitive transformation, where logical form and clarity transcends its own limits to form a new kind of order.
Galleri Christoffer Egelund invites you to the private view of Maria Torp’s exhibition Outside In and Marianne Lipschitz Jørgensen’s exhibition in the project room, Walk the Line, on Friday 23 May at 4pm – 8 pm. The exhibition is subsequently shown in the period from 24 May – 21 June 2008. Opening hours: Monday – Friday 11am – 6pm, Saturday 11am – 3pm.

Galleri Christoffer Egelund præsenterer med stolthed Maria Torps første større separatudstilling, Outside In.
Sideløbende hermed, i galleriets projektrum, præsenteres udstillingen, Walk the Line, af Marianne Lipschitz Jørgensen. Her udforskes tegningens mest basale elementer og deres mulighedspotentialer.
